Collaborative Curriculum Development Workshop
Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (EDT)
Thematic, integrated, universal, experiential, project-based and problem-based. We believe that curriculum developed with these principles is significantly more powerful for student engagement, achievement, motivation and a host of other factors. Unfortunately, it is also much more complex, time-consuming and intimidating for teachers to develop these types of curriculum alone when they are used to following scripted single-subect lecture-based curriculum structures. We believe that if there were well designed and teacher-tested examples of thematic, integrated, universal, experiential and PBL(x2) curriculum available more teachers and schools would utilize it.
So that's what we are going to do.
We will develop a thematic, integrated, universal, experiential and PBL(x2) curriculum for K-12 students that we will utilize at LCPS for the 4th quarter and then publish at the end of the quarter with implementation notes.
Our 4th quarter theme is Inventions and Entrepreneurship. Sweet, right?
Join us on March 30th for a day full of activities, examples, projects and planning that will lead to the generation of what will be an amazing curriculum unit.
Anyone interested in being a part of this design process - People in the education world, in the business/startup world, in the design world, in this world. It's vital that we have a cross-disciplinary group of folks to get the most innovative curriculum design ideas so don't feel like you have to have classroom or curriculum design experience to join us!
When & Where
Lawton Chiles Preparatory School
Lawton Chiles Preparatory School for Gifted and Talented Students was founded in 1971. We strive to defend and cultivate the individuality we are all born with but too often neglect. At LCPS, we believe that students unique combination of gifts and talents help them make our world a better place. We focus on cultivating students' intellectual growth in the subjects in which they are most interested and gifted. Using project-based curricula, we challenge students to increase their individual learning pace with one-on-one academic and life skills instruction. Our unique teaching strategies transform our students into well-adapted, successful individuals.
